Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert found herself in hot water after an eventful evening at a production of “Beetlejuice” in Denver last weekend, resulting in her eviction from the show.
Initially, Boebert denied any wrongdoing, vehemently contesting allegations of inappropriate behavior during the performance. However, her claims crumbled when surveillance footage surfaced, vividly capturing her disrupting the show alongside a male companion. According to an incident report, theater staff had reprimanded the pair for their unruly conduct, which included vaping, singing, and creating a disturbance.
In a surprising turn of events, Boebert later issued an apology, acknowledging her lapse in judgment. She attributed her behavior to the tumultuous period she and her family had been enduring due to a challenging divorce.
“There’s no perfect blueprint for going through a public and difficult divorce, which over the past few months has made for a challenging personal time for me and my entire family,” she confessed on social media. “I’ve tried to handle it with strength and grace as best I can, but I simply fell short of my values on Sunday. That’s unacceptable, and I’m sorry.”
Boebert’s antics in the theater had not gone unnoticed by fellow audience members, who were irked by her disruptive conduct, including her use of a vape device. Initially, she had asserted that her removal from the performance was solely due to her enthusiasm.
“It’s true, I did thoroughly enjoy the AMAZING Beetlejuice at the Buell Theatre and I plead guilty to laughing and singing too loud!” Boebert admitted on social media.
However, the widely circulated surveillance footage told a different story. It revealed Boebert vaping, releasing clouds of smoke into the air, dancing in her seat, taking photos of the performance, and even flipping the middle finger at ushers as they escorted her out of the theater.
During her removal, Boebert reportedly made remarks like, “Do you know who I am?” and “I will be contacting the mayor,” as documented in the incident report.
Additionally, another video emerged, suggesting that Boebert and her male companion engaged in explicit sexual behavior during the show.
In her Friday apology, Boebert refrained from directly addressing the second video but did admit to her vaping, explaining that she had initially denied it because she “did not recall” the events of the evening.
The incident has put Boebert in the spotlight, as she faces a rematch with the same Democrat in her bid for reelection. After nearly losing her seat last year, she aims to present a more restrained image in her district, contrasting with her fiery persona in Washington.
