Stacey Abrams, a former gubernatorial candidate in Georgia, was once considered a top contender for the Vice President position but lost out to Kamala Harris. Harris is now trying to replicate Joe Biden’s surprising victory in Georgia, largely credited to Abrams’ vision and fundraising skills. However, Abrams’ political influence has diminished since her 2022 defeat and her nonprofit groups are facing financial struggles. Despite their parallel paths, Abrams and Harris have had little interaction. There are doubts about whether Abrams’ legacy is strong enough to help Harris win in Georgia. The state’s high percentage of Black voters, Abrams’ specialty, may be a challenge for Harris. Abrams and Harris represent different experiences as Black women in America. Abrams has been vocal about race and gender in politics while Harris has avoided making it a focal point. Abrams’ involvement in other campaigns may have contributed to her 2022 defeat. Now, smaller grassroots organizations are stepping up to fill the void left by Abrams’ network, but it is uncertain if Georgia will stay blue in the upcoming election.
